Farm Manager Assistant – Naples, FL
The Farm Manager Assistant role is to carry out daily tasks supporting the farm manager in delivering high quality vegetable crops for research purposes.
Accountabilities
• Perform routine farm work related to vegetable research including land preparation, irrigation, fertilization, mowing, spraying and other required maintenance of the research station.
• Safely operate farm tractors and associated machinery. Ability to properly connect/disconnect and calibrate tractor implements. Ability to operate mechanical, electric, and hydraulically powered tools and attachments. Efficiently uses a variety of hand tools. Perform routine safety and operational checks of equipment and reports all unsafe conditions or faulty equipment observed in the course of duties.
• Assists the Farm Manager in maintaining the integrity and operation of all farm systems and infrastructure. Duties include field maintenance, irrigation monitoring, repair of ditches, water control structures, pumps, motors, irrigation systems, drainage reservoirs, and related equipment, accessories, and supplies.
• Responsible for mixing, loading, and applying agrichemicals for applications related to vegetable research projects and farm maintenance. Assists in calibrating and adjusting in dry fertilizer applications and sprayers.
Required Qualifications:
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Must speak Spanish and English
• Ability to work in a team and to communicate with individuals throughout the organization
Preferred Qualifications:
• Agricultural Experience not required
Additional Information
• Physical demands of the essential functions: Capable of working in high or low temperature conditions in a field, maintenance shop, and warehouse. Capable of lifting up to 35 pounds. Capable of working long hours during time-critical periods of the research cycle. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear.
• Potential allergens-pollen, fungal spores, chemical pesticides in field, greenhouse or growth chamber. Exposure to high and low temperatures, sun, rain, and dust.
• Capable of working some overtime hours during time-critical periods of the research cycle. Occasional weekend irrigation checks.
