Job Description: Industrial Electrician
Position Overview:
The Industrial Electrician is responsible for performing all electrical tasks necessary to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and install equipment and machinery. This role requires the ability to plan and layout work independently, read and interpret prints and schematic drawings, and make necessary corrections. Key duties include troubleshooting electrical breakdowns, programming and installing VFD's, controllers, and other electrical devices and components. The position also involves maintaining and performing minor program changes on PLCs within the facility, keeping accurate records of time, materials, and supplies, and ensuring quality checks on all work. Maintaining clean and organized work areas is essential. Full-time availability and overtime as necessary are required, with attendance being a critical aspect of the role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform all electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation duties.
- Plan and layout work from drawings or sketches, determining necessary materials and equipment.
- Read, interpret, and make corrections to electrical prints and schematic drawings.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical breakdowns on all equipment, including pneumatically controlled equipment.
- Program and install VFDs, controllers, and other electrical devices and components.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and make minor program changes on PLCs as needed.
- Keep detailed records of time, materials, and supplies.
- Conduct quality checks on all completed work.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas.
- Perform additional duties as directed.
Work Schedule:
- 2nd or 3rd shift, Full-time with required overtime.
- Attendance is a critical component of this position.
Planning:
- Plan work from drawings or sketches.
- Determine necessary materials and equipment.
- Use knowledge of electrical principles for daily and emergency tasks.
- Build control panels from drawings and understand standard wire numbering nomenclature.
Physical Requirements:
- Use hand and power tools to lift, hoist, and move parts and equipment with skill and care.
- Handle heavy materials and work in confined spaces.
- Use voltage, amperage, and ohm meters for troubleshooting.
Materials Utilized:
- All necessary electrical materials
Work Location:
- Plant-wide; work required across all departments.
Tools and Equipment:
- All electrical tools and meters needed for job functions.
Experience Required:
- Advanced electrical knowledge and skills for programming and installing plant equipment.
- At least 3 years of experience as an industrial electrician OR an Associate Degree in Electrical Technologies or equivalent.
Safety Requirements:
- Adhere to all plant safety policies and procedures.
- Wear FR-rated clothing, special gloves, and PPE for Arc Flash Category 1-4 per NFPA 70E.
Training and Education:
- On-the-job training, classwork, and computer-based training modules.
- Training in two parts: (1) Controls 24V-110V and (2) Power Distribution 4160V - 110V.
